Only 50g of tobacco allowed into Australia per person?
I've read this came into force on September 1st 2012, is it really that strict now?

Yes totally unfair also other Countries have done similar such as Hong kong and singapore one is only allowed 1 packet of 20 .

Yes, you can only bring in 50 cigarettes or 50g of other tobacco products duty free. You can bring more in but you must declare it and pay duty on it. If you don't declare it you will have to pay duty on all your duty-free stuff including alcohol, perfume etc.
