Fitness is such a relative term, you could be "fit" if you have lots of fur in a cold environment, but that same trait will cause you to over heat in the desert.

"Survival of the fittest" is a very...naive description of how evolution works.

Terms like natural selection and artificial selection are more applicable.

Economic policies are normative...not positive.

Republicans and democrats do not always agree on what normative (artificial selected trait if you want to use your evolution analogy) will have the best positive economic results.

In evolutionary theory, "fitness" refers to your number of living offspring. The name of the game is passing on your DNA to future generations. You can be as big and strong and tough as you want, but if you have no offspring your fitness is "0".

There are usually certain males and females who breed more than other members of the group. But even the younger, weaker males get to breed once in a while. So I don't see the difference between that and the way we see economics - yes, some people are going to have more money, but the little guy still deserves an opportunity here and there. The big guys can't have it ALL, or the population will be genetically weak, lead to inbreeding and eventually collapse.

Because in economics you don't have to kill one company for another company to survive. In fact it's the opposite. Economically a company does better by partnering with another company in a mutually profitable arrangement.

I don't apply it to the economic world because resources aren't scarce, they're plentiful. Poverty in America is due to hoarding, not scarcity.
