Well 5mins on google, you should know everything you need to know...
or ill give you the break down...
When you startup, you will open to the metro interface. To get to the desktop, click the tile that says desktop.
start menu = metro
it works the EXACT same way, but instead of the "list" view of the start menu, it uses an image based "tile" view. The thing on your metro interface are "pinned" to the start menu. You can add/remove programs, games, folders, etc.
If you right click the metro interface, you get options for "all applications", this is the same as start menus "all applications" and you will find the rest of your installed applications here (assuming you have start menu entries checked during install).
You can add/remove from that aswell.
Right click on tiles to get more options, like run as admin, or to unpin, or a uninstall option.
Now what isnt there is the search, control panel, and startup.shut down.
where is that?
just move your mouse to the top right or bottom right corners of the screen, you get a little popout, and it gives options for search, or you can click settings to get control panel, and shutdown/restart options. (control panel only shows if you do this from the desktop mode, but not metro, idk why)
Getting to safe mode is done by going to the top right popout > settings > change pc settings > general. (also getting to your bios is in there if you have a pc that natively comes with win8). If you want to know more indepth, google it...
When running programs/games that dont have credentials, windows will give you a popup, saying it might be unsafe or windows has protected you or some ****. Click the "more info" link, and it will give you the option to run anyway.
thats it. you just learned all the changes of windows 8 in a few seconds.
EVERYTHING, and i mean EVERYTHING else is EXACTLY the same as windows 7 lol (all shortcuts, commands, everything)
And if you seem to still be too dumb to figure all this out, there are programs that you can download/install to give you a start menu in windows 8. google it, will take like 2mins.

Although Microsoft replaced the classic Start Menu with a new tile-based Start Screen on Windows 8, there are several ways to bypass that and get your Start Menu back on Windows 8 desktop. You may try any one of these applications:
Here are some of them:
1. Start8 -- http://www.stardock.com/products/start8/
For only $5, you get a full-fledged Start menu replacement that fits in with Windows 8's more "flat" theme, though you can also choose a theme with more rounded corners like the old Windows 7 start menu. You can also set the Start button to launch a small version of the Start screen, so you can get the benefits of the Start menu with the features of the new Start screen.
2. Classic Shell (Free) -- http://classicshell.sourceforge.net/
Classic Shell starts off looking like an old school pre-XP Windows Start menu, but you can switch to a more XP- or 7-style Start menu with the press of a button.
3. StartMenu8 (Free) -- http://www.iobit.com/iobitstartmenu8.php
Install it, and you'll have your old Start menu back—that's it. It feels a little different than the others (it's more of a popup than a menu), and it has a somewhat annoying "Send Feedback" button, but it does the job without any complicated configuration menus. The only options it has—when you right-click on the Start button—are to run it at startup and to skip the tiled Start screen. This is the best option if you just want to install something for free and get on with your day.
4. Pokki (Free) -- https://www.pokki.com/windows-8-start-menu
Search for apps, control panels, and files. Add your favorite apps, sites, files and folders for quick access. Boot to the desktop and skip the Windows 8 Start Screen. Disable Windows 8 hot corners on the desktop and more. Get free apps and games from the included Pokki App Store.
5. ViStart (Free) -- http://lee-soft.com/vistart/
Enhance your windows start menu with Vistart 8. With cool custom start menu skins like the windows 8 start menu metro skin, start menu buttons and lot's of extra features. The ultimate start menu for Windows 8 and competable with Windows 7, Vista and XP you can download for free. So get your start menu back in windows 8 or replace your start menu in windows 7, Vist or XP.
Some users have said that the best among them are Start8 and Pokki.
If you are still not happy with any of the alternatives above your other options would then be: (a) Buy a Windows 7 OS or (b) use a Linux distro like Mint, Fedora or Ubuntu which are free.

Windows 8 is way too easy if you use it and get hands on it.
Start Menu is there, but it is replaced with Metro version. Press Windows Key on your keyboard and what you see is your start menu.
If you want full list of programs like old Windows 7 start menu, you can press different key combinations you will find in the link below. These combinations easeup your overall experience with Windows 8.
