What are some active middle and top level community fish?

I'm trying to research some community fish that is compatible with Zebra Loaches. I'm looking to get something unusual, but available at pet stores. Some fish i'm interested in are rasboras, tetras, and barbs. The fish should be able to eat flake foods at the surface of the water. I would like them to be active and colorful. Thanks!
