What should I teach my parakeets?

My sister and I just got two parakeets on New Years Eve, and I read that you can teach them all kinds of tricks once you hand train them. First off, how exactly do you hand train them? Once we've done that, what are some good beginning tricks for them to learn?

Tame them! It takes patience, but the result is an amazing friend (your bird).

I tamed a parakeet and this is what I learned: Next, take a branch that is about 7-8 inches long. Hold the very end of the branch as close as you can get to your bird's feet (stop when he starts backing away or threatening to bite). Then leave the branch there and wait until he relaxes. Then take the branch away for about 10-20 seconds. Keep doing this until he stops backing away or threatening to bite. Then move the branch closer to his feet and repeat the procedure. You should do short training sessions maybe about ten minutes. Give him at least an hour break. Then, pick up where you left off. When you can touch the branch to his feet without him moving away, start to press the branch gently right above his feet. He should step onto the branch with at least one foot. let him stand there for about ten seconds and the gently tip him onto a perch in his cage. You want to make it your decision that he gets off, not his. Once he is comfortable with stepping onto the branch with both feet for about a minute or two, slide your hand about an inch closer to the end of the branch and get him comfortable with stepping onto the branch then. Keep shortening your branch by about an inch until he is stepping onto your finger instead of the branch. If you are scared of him biting you, you may want to wear a pair of gloves at first. I hope this works for you!

First of all you need to tame them. What you need to do is this

    Build Trust

    1. Put your hand in the cage in a none threatening cage and talk to your parakeets in a calm voice. Make sure you do not get disturbed. If the budgie flies around 4 times or more then come back the next day. But continue doing that until the parakeet does not tense or fly around. I recommend 4-7 days of this.

    2. Move your hand towards the parakeet until it tenses. Keep your hand there and calm him down by talking calmly. Then bring your hand closer. Soon you can touch the parakeet. Gently stroke it if it lets you.

    3. If it does then put pressure against the parakeets lower abdomen and through reflex it will step onto your hand.

(do not yell or do any sudden movements in front of your birds)

A trick is that you have your bird on your finger and then make him step up to your other hand by bringing it around and repeat that until you can speed up.

    IT IS COOL

    YOU NEED PATIENCE AS WELL
