Nothingness and Existence.?
The definition of nothing is, no thing, not existing, denoting the absence of something. '
Do we really knowing what "nothing" is
We can't use our understanding of the universe to explain what "nothingness" is, even the vacuum of space and time is something.
we can only comprehend what nothing is by comparing it to something which exists. for example, Absence of light is darkness.
but how would everything be without the existence of the universe? without space or time.
I think I just got mind raped.
I'm an atheist btw

Absolute nothingness is damn near impossible for anyone to comprehend, because you are right: even in the vacuum of space there is still time and space.
Theoretical physics states that the universe is still expanding, meaning if we could get to the point, in any direction, where that expansion was occurring, then in theory we could see beyond the "something" in which we live into the "nothing" that preceded the Big Bang. Is this actually possible? Nope. The expansion of space is theorized to be moving faster than the speed of light.
I know, I know: anyone with a High School education will say "Nothing moves faster than the speed of light!", and they are technically right, but it depends on what you categorize is "something". Empty space (with nothing occupying it) is theorized to move faster than the light occupying that space.
Theoretical physics is trippy, and awesome, stuff.

Space is something. If space were one thing less - the absence of space itself - then it would be nothingness. This is because space is already an abyss except for space itself. In absolute nothingness even black does not exist because it is still something that we can see and make out. Even if it is the lack of something, it still exists.
To understand nothingness is a hard thing to do, and one cannot understand it fully. I have tried many times, but it is an incredibly hard concept to understand. It takes time.

Since we are very much creatures of space and time, and reference everything around us on space and time I think that very few of us can really comprehend true nothing. I am pretty sure I can't, although my mind can touch in it slightly.
You look at many of the posts here that talk about nothing (as opposed to the vast number of posts that have nothing to talk about!) and you can see that most people seem to consider a vacuum to be nothing, which it is not because it exists in space/time.
One of the things that seems obvious to me is that true nothing would probably be very unstable. If space/time and energy/matter in that space/time could form from nothing then it would happen instantly (since there can be no time until space/time is formed)

There cannot ever be absolutely nothing. It is impossible for there to be absolutely nothing. Something must exist. Nothing is a word that can only be used in relative terms. You can only truly say that there is nothing of a particular set. You can never say that there is nothing of the universal set because something cannot come into being from absolutely nothing and something does exist therefore something always existed and never was there a time when there was absolutely nothing in existence.

It would seem that either we are still yet a young species and have only been pursuing the answers to life's greater puzzles with any serious methodology for around 400 years.
But some are trying, and "something from nothing" does have its proponents.
Look it up on you tube.

I like Plato's definition of /nothing/: "That which rocks dream about."
Nothing is the complete lack of attributes and potentiality. Complete negation.
Which brings up the reasonable question considered by Leibniz, "Why is there anything instead of nothing."

In some ways, that beats the hell out of the other kind of rape. Consider yourself lucky! And your question is 'How would everything be if there was nothing'. Now THERE'S a nothing question if ever there was one!
