Help with Family ancestors search?

My dad wants to know about his late grandfather who lived in America around 30 years ago. he was o f Bangladeshi origin and he passed away around 20 years ago and he had family living in the US. (Uncles, aunties) and he was wondering is there any way that you would be able to locate them.

We don't have much info, just maybe year of birth and name.

Is there any website that I could use which would help me.

No. Without a name, NO one can be found. Had you posted the grandfathers' name... we might have already found someone for you.

IF the grandfather ever obtained citizenship OR a social security number...then his death is probably in the social security death index. That is the one, national level index to deaths. Without it you must search every state (not all have online indexes).

Being from Bangladesh... possibly, this ISN'T a solution. All states will issue death certificates, but you need the state to look in.

When you have the death date and location...THEN you attempt finding an obituary, in the paper which may/ may not exist..and may/may not have NAME and location of relatives.

You would be much better to provide his name and last known locality...so we could have really helped you.

ask around to find out the city and state he lived in, what religion, maybe what exact date he died and what name he used when he was here...that's a start to search here. Once you have those things ask us again your question with details.

Usually when a person dies they have a social security number but more than likely your late grandfather didn't have that so you'd need to know where he died to check out what other relatives lived in that city/state with that same name that he may have lived with or see if he was buried thru the church there or in a public cemetery..

Find a Grave ...if he was buried there it may have been put on http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi

The Social Security Death Index http://genealogy.about.com/gi/o.htm?zi=1/XJ&zTi=1&...

    Thats a start..........

  • Try www.familysearch.org, www.cyndislist.com, if he had a social security number, check the S.S.D.I. Find YOUR birth certificate, then the birth/marriage/death certificates of your parents, their parents, their parents, etc.

    Remember, aunts/uncles/cousins/siblings are NOT ancestors.
