1951 Kaiser Starter Problem?

I am needing a starter for my 1951 Kaiser Deluxe which has been converted to a 12-volt system. Is there another vehicle I can use the starter from on this vehicle? I have no sources to cross-reference, so if someone could help me out I would sure appreciate it! Thanks!

BO and TSG are right, you just need to remove the starter if it's there and rebuild it. If the windings are not damaged it's not very hard to install new brushes. If the windings are damaged, you may have to find a starter about the same size and modify it to work on your housing. Getting the original starter may be near impossible. Black Hills antique auto outside of Newcastle, Wyoming may be able to help locate one if it's not there. Phone: 605-749-2224 Email: johncrabtree@direcway.com I don't know whether John is still there or not, but he would know.

Why do you need a starter? Does the car not have one?

Just rebuild the one you have. Easy to find shops that rebuild starters and generators.

EDIT - thanks to "Guns" for the props. An UP for you. And a big FO to the person who DOWNed me. You know I'm right. Deal with it.

    I'm thinking a Continental Forklift starter or a Willy's http://www.kaiserwillys.com/

This guy is right, I don't know why somebody would give a thumbs down.

Take it to a shop that rebuilds them, you sure aren't going to find a replacement.

They may have to make some parts, don't be surprised if its hundreds of dollars.
