Help me find the slope and y intercept?
x + 4y = 8 and the graph contains the point (2, 7) Find slope and Y intercept and show me how you did it

The graph of x + 4y = 8 DOES NOT contain the point (2, 7) (2 + 28 DOES NOT equal 8)
Assuming we are looking for a parallel or perpendicular line:
A parallel line would be of the form x + 4y = C and satisfy (2, 7)
(2) + 4(7) = C = 30
x + 4y = 30 is parallel to the original line x + 4y = 8
Slope and y-intercept of new line x + 4y = 30:
Solve for y and read them from the form
x + 4y = 30
4y = - x + 30
y = (- 1/4)x + 15/2 Slope equal - 1/4, y-intercept is 15/2

Perhaps you were looking for a perpendicular line (I don't know, it wasn't stated)
Perpendicular lines have negative reciprocal slopes:
If one line has slope a/b, a line perpendicular has slope - b/a
The given line: x + 4y = 8 has slope of - 1/4, we found that out above as parallel lines have the same slope.
A perpendicular line would have slope = 4
If it contained the point (2, 7), an equation would be:
y - 7 = 4*(x - 2) OR solve for y, OR put in standard form:
y - 7 = 4x - 8, y = 4x - 1 OR
4x - y = 1

Slope is -1/4 and Y-intercept is 2. But I don't think the graph would contain the point (2,7).
x + 4y = 8
Convert the equation into y = mx + b form
Where,
m - slope (Change in y value for any two points in the graph / Corresponding Change in x value of those two points)
b - Y- intercept (The point where the graph intercepts the Y-axis. In other words, the point where x is 0)
x + 4y =8
4y = -x +8
y = (-1/4)x + 8/4
y = (-1/4)x + 2
y = mx + b.
To draw a graph for any given equation, Substitute different values of x in the equation and find the corresponding y values. Then use these points to draw the graph.
For e.g., y = (-1/4)x + 2
Substitute x = 0, then y =2 (0,2)
Substitute x = 1, then y =7/4 (1,7/4)
Substitute x = 2, then y =3/2 (2,3/2)
Substitute x = -1, then y =9/4 (-1,9/4)
and so on...

The graph of the line x + 4y = 8 does not contain the point (2,7).... just put x= 2 and y = 7 is not true.
The form of the equation slope and y-intercept is y = ax + b where a is the slope and b is the y-intercept... Then just write the equation in this form...
It is x + 4y = 8 == > y = (-1/4)x + 2 then the slope is a= -1/4 and the y-intercept is (0,2) ... OK!

4y = -x + 8
y = -1/4x + 2
so the slope is -1/4
and the y intercept is : you replace x with zero
y = -1/4(0) +2
y = 2

first write in standard format y = mx + c where m = slope and c the intercept on the Y axis (when x = 0)
y = (-1/4)x + 2
Slope is -(1/4)
to find Y intercept set x = 0
Y = 2
------------------------------------------
Just for interest the slope of the line perpendicular to this one would have a slope of +4 ( negative reciprocal of -1/4)
