Are Republicans glad that many states are requiring background checks at all gun shows?

In the wake of the Newtown shooting, many state, county and city governments are enacting stricter regulations on gun shows, including barring the sale of military style assault weapons, requiring a Federal background check on all sales, and -in one instance- requiring gun dealers to accept legal liability if weapons they sell are used in a crime. "If a bartender can be held legally liable for serving drinks to someone who is arrested later on that same night for DWI, then why shouldn't a gun show dealer be held liable for a gun he sells being used in a crime?" said one official.

Should Republicans be proud that firearms legislation is occurring at the state and local level, and that new regulations are so numerous and widespread that even the lobbying power of the NRA cannot hope to reach all of these communities?

Update:

Seeing as Republicans are such huge advocates of States Rights and increased authority for local government rather than Federal regulations, shouldn't they be glad to hear about these laws being local rather than national?

Background checks were not done at gun shows, which some of the folks that answered, apparently, did not know that. That is a huge loop hole. Glad to hear some states have started implementing the background check as law, and eliminating this huge loophole.

Of course, there still is the unscrupulous that sell guns on the sly, and guns get stolen.

Only a complete fool wouldn't know that back ground checks were required at all guns shows, in all states, and has been for years. The lack of education liberals show is mind boggling!

@ neengefa. Why do uneducated people try to answer questions and make remarks about things they know nothing about? There has been background checks at gun shows since 1993. Educate yourself if you want to look intelligent, otherwise continue to make yourself look like a fool.

I would think that after 20 years even a liberal should have learned about this.

short answer: because "the right of the individuals to shop and undergo hands, could no longer be infringed." someone said that once... lengthy answer: Why could you help history checks to infringe upon that proper? because the article being bought can doubtlessly take lives? If it really is the argument, and there is not any longer some thing incorrect with history checks, then why do not we've history checks at culinary expositions? in spite of everything, they do promote quite some knives there, and all of us keep in mind that knives kill, too. persevering with the argument better, shouldn't there be history checks at abode Depot/Lowe's, because they promote chainsaws and 16-foot ladders? human beings die from falling off ladders, you already know. And in case you probably did not see the Texas Chainsaw bloodbath, we would have close down the finished action picture if we did an uncomplicated history examine... lol and could MMA instructors project history checks to all individuals learning blended martial arts? An experienced martial artist can kill you with no gun, a knife, or a chainsaw. He can practice all individuals the thanks to do a similar ingredient.

Wow! You really are ignorant of gun laws and gun shows aren't you? Federal laws mandated that any gun dealer or licensed broker when selling a firearm must do a NICS check. So this is nothing new. Individual sales can still be done without a check but some (dealers) have made it where they will do the check for individual sellers. This is gun dealers policing the gun shows themselves as much as laws being passed.

I was at a gun show this very day, and the tables where you apply for a background check were filled up with folks filling out the forms. They compare the applicants name to a list of felons and it just takes an hour or two. No big deal and I think its a great idea. And best of all I saw many new and used AR-15s for sale!!!!! Prices are up on those thanks to you and Obama.

This is not new. If you studied up you'd know it's been this way for a long time now. Very few places can you buy guns without some kind of check.

"If a bartender can be held legally liable for serving drinks to someone who is arrested later on that same night for DWI, then why shouldn't a gun show dealer be held liable for a gun he sells being used in a crime?" said one official.

That official is a blithering idiot.

Serving a clearly intoxicated individual is not comparable to selling an individual a gun who may or may not use it in a crime a week, a month or five years later.

I mean, seriously. How stupid are you?

I'm Not a Republican. And I'm against all these new regulations. More regulations = Less freedom. Citizens should be free to buy and sell guns without any government involvement.

Yeah, you think the GOP likes criminals getting their hands on guns? Hell no, just because a maniac goes on a rampage doesn't mean we should all lose the privilege to own guns
