Driving from Chicago to Martinsville - Do you know of any interesting sights, short side trips on the way?

Making the trip with 3 friends, all male.  No rush, we're going to a Nascar race & we have plenty of time to sight see-  first trip to that part of the country for all of us so we plan on "touring"

On the way to tiny Martinsville you should make a stop at the site of the most famous race in the world.  Tour the Indianapolis Speedway and visit the Hall of Fame Museum.  The Brickyard is almost 5x the size of the Paperclip.

If you think NASCAR is fast what about propellers, jets and rockets?  Visit the National Museum of the US Air Force in Dayton, OH...hundreds of planes, missles, and rockets:
