28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later (the sequel does focus on the initial outbreak of a second wave)
Diary of the Dead (the last good Romero movie in my opinion)
Night of the Living Dead (All 3 remakes)
Dawn of the Dead (The remake is closer to the initial outbreak)
REC and Quarantine (Quarantine is mostly about zombies, while REC is about demons).
Shaun of the Dead (a funny take on Dawn of the Dead)

Dawn of the Dead (remake) showed more of the initial outbreak, than the original did.
