Who would you nominate for the environmental Hall of Shame/Fame?
Who would you nominate for the Environmental Hall of Fame/Shame?
It is important that we keep in mind those who are heroes and villains in our efforts to protect the environment. Each year, I take a poll to find those most deserving of recognition in the Environmental Hall of Fame and the Environmental Hall of Shame. Please give your choice for each category. If you would, please include a short reason that your nominee should be chosen and suggest a suitable gift if they win.
The 2011 Environmental Hall of Fame Winners was James Hansen for playing a pivotal role in delaying a decision on the XL pipeline whose construction would greatly accelerate global warming. The 2011 Hall of Shame award went to Halliburton (Cheney), for the Halliburton clause in the Clean Water Act. This clause provided a loophole that allows the composition of fracking chemicals to remain secret, thanks to Cheney. Past years winners and their gifts were:
Hall of Fame - Gift
2010 RealClimate.org - A recommendation from this site. ( Priceless)
2009 Benno Hansen, ThinkAboutIt Blogger - A Subscription to Science News.
Hall of Shame
2010 Koch Brothers - A petition to the Wizard of Oz for the grant of a social conscience.
2009 SpaceGuy, Newsvine Blogger - The movie Wall-E, representing his view of the future of Earth.
Nominations will be taken until January 31st, 2013. The nominees will then be listed and I will conduct a poll in February to determine the winner in each category. You may suggest a suitable prize for your nominee. Please be imaginative, as particularly thoughtful or humorous nominations will be recognized and published on my website.

This will take some thought - so many candidates for Hall of Shame .... there is "Pretend Lord" Monckton (although his thoughts on DDT indicates he is seriously psychologically disturbed) , Rupert Murdoch (for setting setting good corporate governance whilst making money out of angry simpletons) ; the chorus line of rent-a-mouth hack journalists paid to complain about scientists being paid for their work.
The prize should be something like the crockerduck - from the evolution denier industry , where the climate change denier industry gets their arguments http://api.ning.com/files/A*tkidRMIQmYpAXVpVhkDpkf...
"mass production of cheap, plastic, petro-chemical products: for western countries , who therefore outsource their emissions and criticise China with mock outrage
Regarding the lies about Monckton being a Lord : a cease & desist letter from the House of Lords. http://www.parliament.uk/documents/lords-informati...
Monckton is a serial liar & a fraud - the perfect denier spokesman

Apparently he equates people considering Earth more important than SUVs with them considering it to be more important than God or our fellow human beings.

Hall of Fame
SkepticalScience.com, without a doubt.
During 2012, SkS has become a mainstream place where an increasing number of people, journalists included, check the veracity of typical denier claims + teaches people a thing or two about why deniers use those misguided claims and gives the full, undistorted picture with links to original papers. etc.
With SkS' approach (ie, their famous graphs like 'the Escalator') they've found a way to communicate difficult climate science issues in a rather easy manner.
Hall of Shame
Science denial funding through organizations such as Donors Trust and Donors Capital Fund.
These organizations act as a kind of 'go-between' for donors who wish to remain anonymous as donations are received from Donors Trust and/or Donors Capital Fund while the original donor (who earmarks on which organization(s) his money has to be spend) remains anonymous.
Checking these organizations' 990 forms over the past few years, it immediately becomes clear that more corporations, foundations and billionaires use these Donors Trust and Donors Capital Fund to secretly fund a whole range of climate science denying organizations and mouthpieces (ie Marc Morano).

Oh JimZ shouldn't stop there. He previously has labeled the National Academy of Science, The Royal Society and every academy of great scientists in the world "idiots" and "imbeciles". JimZ just hates scientists, so I guess his nominees should be flattered. Dana would certainly be complimented to be as idiotic and imbecilic as the NAS and Royal Society.
Maybe we should nominate JimZ's Jr. High science teacher for Hall of Shame. The guy obviously did something to make him so hate those who understand physics. Something traumatic must have happened there.
My nominee for Hall of Shame would be The Sierra Club for their bureaucratic extremism that turns away practical environmentalists. But my beef with them is local, not to be debated on an international board.
For Hall of Fame, I'd nominate Ma Jun for working with companies and educating people in China in order to improve drinking water in China.

Hall of Shame:
Every gutless Democrat politician afraid to stand up for what they believe and every greed-mongering journalist-whore who has no professional ethics - and doesn't care.
Hall of Fame:
Every climate scientist who has been defamed and threatened (economically, legally, physically) for no reason other than being a scientist.

Hall of shame : Phil fiddle the figures Jones of East Anglia Uni.
Hall of fame : Lord Monkton for services to humanity. (Note for non UK people, he is not a pretend lord, he just isn't allowed into the upper chamber/house of lords. Lords are not automatically let into this club. I personally know a Lord who is a pauperised salesman. It's just a title on your passport and not a guarantee of wealth and large country estates.

I would nominate Dana for the hall of shame. He has been singled out as one of the most partisan and ridiculous contributors on the alarmist side. Other nominees would be the obvious such as Hansen and Mann. Mann could have a whole section of shame dedicated to him.
