RA Dickey press conference?

Just watched the RA Dickey press conference (taped it). After the trade a read a few "articles" on Yahoo and the writers were essentially saying that Dickey is a difficult, self-centered guy who 1. wouldnt want to play in Toronto or. 2. would hold them for ransome for more money.

From the press conference I have no clue where these comments came from. I find most conferences a waste of time but this one (40 minutes or so) was interesting. Zero cliches! Guy is intelligent, humble, a great humanitarian and understands his position (from what I can see).

He signed in Toronto quickly and didnt ask for a penny more than he wanted from Ny. He also is donated the max. allowed to Jays charity. Believe he also plans to live in Toronto during the season.

Was this a total act? Or was is sour grapes from some of the yahoo "writers"?

I'm not sure which Yahoo writers you are citing. In the New York media the most outspoken critic has been Ken Davidoff of the New York Post. From my standpoint as a Met fan that has read Dickey's book, listened to yesterday's press conference, and will miss watching him pitch every five days, what you saw yesterday was the genuine article and not an act.

Of course as fans we'll never know what goes on behind the scenes so it's possible he rubbed others the wrong way as Davidoff has been. But such reports are less frequent than the positive ones about him. The "R.A. Dickey phenomenon" is very similar to the "Jeremy Lin phenomenon" in basketball (except that Dickey had two solid years before 2012) in that for all the positive attention there were also a few detractors that had their reasons but didn't really clarify what those reasons were.

Source(s): New York Post and my own personal experience.

I think RA Dickey is a class act all the way around.

As a 38 year old major league pitcher that has bounced around much of his career, it is certainly understandable for him to be seeking some sort of financial security.

I would hardly say he is overpaid.

I will enjoy watching RA this upcoming season, and hope that he continues his success.

All I know is that he was the worst pitcher in the majors and got sent to the minors. There, he perfected a knuckleball and when he was called up he became a Cy Young winner. Takes a hard-working, look-in-the-mirror type of guy to be able to do that.

specific, he's intense. The reporter particularly did ask Obama that. Obama responded that its unhappy and went right into somewhat extra element. He did say that it grew to become into good that baseball sees it has an issue and is working to repair it, and that he's apprehensive with reference to the consequence it could have on the adolescents.
