Is the national guard really a militia?

    They are one form of militia. They are the regulated militia as they train and operate at the will of the government.

    The militia as stated in the 2nd Amendment is comprised of the people. This militia is separate from government. The reason for this is that the founders were well aware that power corrupts and the government could be the enemy.

    Yes the National Guard is a militia. The Militia Act 1903 established the America's National Guard. The National Guard is meant to serve as America's First line of defense. The National Guard is organized into units stationed in each of the 50 states and US territories, in which the governor can call them up for active duty to help respond to domestic emergencies.

    Although the National Guard soldiers are also being deployed into warfare now.
