Having problems with AMD switchable graphics in laptop?

I have an MSI fx420 laptop, Windows 7, 8GB RAM, i5 2nd Gen and it supposedly has AMD Radeon HD 6470m and Intel HD 3000 display drivers. I have switched most of my games to high performance mode in Catalyst Control Center Switchable Graphics. However, games like NBA 2k12 and Minecraft lag terribly, like 10-15 fps, even in high-performance settings. Is there something wrong with my switchable graphics, or is this really just the capacity of my laptop? I have seen videos of laptops with much lower specs than mine play NBA or Minecraft decently. I'm also having problems with graphics-intensive programs like Adobe Premiere CS6 and Cyberlink Powerdirector.
