Curriculum Question...?

I will be homeschooled soon and I just wanted to make sure I understood this correctly.

My curriculum can consist of anything I desire. For example, if I don't want any science subjects, I don't have to. If I want to just focus on reading/writing and math, I can do that.

Is this correct? I just want to make sure.

I live in Texas, where home schools have no statutes.

Thank you.

That's right! In fact, you don't have to have a "curriculum" at all! Well, it does say (in the law) that you need to have "reading, spelling, grammar, mathematics, and good citizenship." I am not sure how they gauge a good citizenship class!

But, remember, if you ever want to go to college you will want to take some of those classes that don't interest you, like science! But, it can be any science topic you like.

Keep track of what you do take, so you can make a transcript for college.

We don't have to follow any set guidelines either, and my 11th grade son only "takes" Geometry and English. Those are the things I assign and require. The other stuff is all up to him and his interests. He gets a lot done on his own.

Absolutely. Of course, if you want to go to college/university you'll need to check what requirements they have; I know in the US some of them want a test, or diploma that shows a range of subjects.

But if there are no rules in your State you can study whatever you like, at whatever level you choose, using whatever method you want. That's how it works in the UK too.
