Should I get internet only?

I live with a roommate in Southern California, and right now we have at&t's dsl basic plan, which is only like seven hundred something kb per second, suuuuuper sloooow. This is bundled with a home phone, too. However, since we both have cell phones, my roommate thinks that we should just cut off at&t and find a provider with an internet only plan. Right now, we are considering Time Warner Cable (but if you have a better suggestion, please leave a tip in you answer). I know that after a year, the cost of internet with twc will get higher, so do you think we should do this? Would it be okay for phone calls usually for land lines, like announcements and stuff, to be called to our cell phones instead of a home phone? Would we be able to get along without a landline? Do you think I should just get AT&T dsl with no home phone, which I saw on their internet site, instead?

Update:

So yeah, I have google voice already, so i'm planning to get an app for all our iphones to use google voice through wifi. Then, we can save our minutes :D

Get cable and sign up for google Voice. after a year find another provider. No one needs a land line anymore.

Internet is sufficient nowadays. Skype or magic jack for phone, many alternatives for television.
