Don't the hateful views of the United States by other countries bother you?
I am an American and I have just recently realized how unpopular the United States is around the world. I get that a lot of it has to do with the United States policing the world and being perceived as "bossy", which doesn't go over well with most countries. I also realize that a portion of it is attributed to the fact that the United States is very rich, which other countries do not take very well either. But every time I read something nasty about the United States, my heart breaks. It hurts to know that so many people genuinely hate my country. I know that not everyone can like you, but I feel like it is a worldwide thing. When you type in "Why are Americans" into Google, the top four suggested questions are "so stupid", "obese", "fat", and "so lazy". I get that America has a weight problem, but we're making efforts to change that. And regarding the awful things that we do to other countries (such as killing innocent people), every country does things they are not proud of. I love my country more than any of you could possibly comprehend, but of course there are things that the United States does that I disagree with. All countries make mistakes. All countries cause others pain. But to point the finger at the United States and call us out is hypocritical. I also hate how other countries act so ungrateful when we bail them out of trouble or provide disaster relief. We are such a giving country and yet I feel that sometimes other countries just end up slapping us in the face. I have even read of people in other countries saying that we got what we deserved on 9/11. That makes me want to cry when I hear that. I would NEVER wish that on any other country. Yes, I understand that this relates back to the United States policing the world and sticking our noses in places where it doesn't belong, but to wish that on a country is just obscene. (Personally, I HATE how the United States interferes with other countries where the majority of the people don't want us there.) I have also read that people make fun of our deep patriotism. Is it such a crime to love your country? Correct me if I am wrong, but I feel that it is important to love the country that you are a part of. Anyway, sorry this is so long, but I just had to get it off my chest. Oh, I am also an American teenager, so if I perceive anything wrong, forgive me. Please express your opinion on this troubling issue. I would love to hear your ideas :)
@ocularnervosa- Yes, I do realize that I am still very young, and do not know the world as much as I like to think I do. Also, I do see that not all people hate America, some actually love it! I was just curious what other people thought because my mom knew someone who went to France, and everyone was so rude to her. No one would help her with directions or anything. I definitely see what you mean, and I am glad that you didn't have to experience what my mom's friend had to experience :)
@Iron_Plague- I totally agree with you. We upset people no matter what we do. If we do something we are "bossy", if we don't we are "useless". Look above at my answer to "ocularnervosa" to see what prompted my question. :)
@Dark- I agree with you. I hate it when Americans create stereotypes about other countries. Not all Arabs are terrorists, just like not all Americans are fat and lazy. I do disagree with you though on the education part. Some people fail to recognize that in some countries, they only educate the intelligent, where as in America we educate everyone. Therefore, this makes us look less intelligent to other countries because of the not-so-smart people that we educate. And just so you know, I am one of those students that care about my education. :)
Yeah, I do acknowledge the terrible things that Americans have done. I know we have killed many, many innocent people, and there is no excuse for that. I am deeply ashamed of that fact, but I stand by my country no matter what. And yet again this question was prompted by my mom's friend unfriendly experience in France. I know that likewise to many people hating America, there are also many people that love America. I'm sorry if it came off as me being only focused on the hatred aspect. I do realize that America has done some horrifying things too and is nowhere near perfect.
@Dark- I personally believe that everyone is intelligent (unless you have a medical condition preventing you from using your entire brain capacity) and that the grades will show it if everyone actually puts effort into their work. So yes, in other countries they can choose to get education or not, but they wouldn't do so if they weren't going to try right? Americans are forced to get educated whether they like it or not, so many students don't try if they don't care about their education, thus making Americans appear dumber than they actually are. And you are completely right in the fact that Americans are not nearly as smart as some countries, but I also believe we are not as dumb as we appear to be. (I may have been wrong with only the intelligent getting educated, I am sorry.)

I completely agree with what your saying. Unfortunately having a lot of people and freedom of speech means the idiots get to say what they want. When you get one man yelling about how much other countries suck they tend to dislike that mans country. This also has been effected by our politics. A lot of other countries that are comparable to America are more liberal and a few are actually truly socialist. So when our conservatives start talking about how socialism and liberalism is evil (not trying to be biased here but I see this come more from conservatives) they insult other countries. Those same people also call anything they don't like "unamerican" which really makes the rest of us look stuck up and like we look down on other countries. These kinds of people with the attitude of "I'm American everyone loves me and your not American so screw you" can easily be found in some of the other answers posted.

America is not really hated.. there's always a silent majority you don't hear. Yes, the US does terrible things. If they were not asked for helped, clearly nobody wants their help!!! Americans do tend to be lazy, and take things for granted. Seriously though, Americans don't tend to be all that smart; at school for example, there's either 1 kid in a class that cares about learning or none. That kid is usually Asian or from some other country...
It's good to love your own country, but you can't expect others to do the same.
Also, have you ever thought about the United States' view ON other countries? You should. They (majority, stupid ones) think of most Arabs as terrorists. They think the rest of the world is all poor and still live on camels. They think black people are all hungry in Africa. List goes on and on.... Never the case though. They just see themselves as more superior. They're clearly not.
You're right-- every country does bad things. Usually, they do them inside their own country though. I know about 9/11, but seriously, the US has killed way more than the people who died on 9/11. Of course, since Americans are so much cooler, they're worth more; and they're not just normal people dying anywhere else in the world..
Edit: look at the other questions here, and see how smart Americans can be.
"What's Obama's last name?"
"Is Canada a state?"
Edit 2: I like America and Americans, but you just can't deny some facts.
Edit 3: Sorry but where did you get that information from? In my original country, every one WHO CARED to be educated was educated; not only the intelligent. You would be surprised to know that most people were actually interested in learning.
Yes everyone here is forced to be in school until they're 18, but the ones who don't care never will. They'll end up working for a fast food chain.

I have been to every continent except for 1.
I have been to NUMEROUS countries around the world and I have yet to see this "hatred of America".
As to the United States "policing the world". Bosnia and Serbia. We stayed out. We waited. We waited for Europe to do something while thousands were murdered. Finally Europe became upset with us because we were NOT "policing" for them, and we had to go in and fix a problem that THEY should have taken care of.
That is what happens. We we do nothing, the world is upset, when we do something, the world is upset.
But, ultimately, the people are not. I have never experienced any animosity in any of my travels.
*EDIT* Ahh, France. That is to be expected there. Honestly, many of the people in the cities in France are a bunch of douche bags. Get in the country and the people are decent.

One thing I like is that the world has never called us weak. But I also love this country. But we have lost the way. We are letting the government have so much power and control of things a responsible man can do on his own like social security and health care. Back then everybody loved the good old USA. Everybody came here looking for freedom. I can say we are a little self centered as a nation, as tragedies in other nations go unnoticed in the news. I love this country.

I didn't bother to read all that text, but other countries have total reason to hate the US. We're far from a perfect country and we make terrible mistakes (mostly murders) every day. We do some good things (most for self-interest however) but other countries have every reason to dislike us

I've been to a number of foreign countries and they love America. My suggestion is to stop listening to the talking head pundits and experience a little of life yourself before jumping to conclusions.

Governments consist of power hungry war mongers. They love to hate. But people like you and me, we don't necessarily hate the people of the countries our government leaders hate and people of those countries don't necessarily hate us either.
I was in Austria not long ago and met a Muslim young man from Bosnia who loved America so much that when he learned I was American he wanted to friend me on facebook to have an American friend.
He said America saved his family from being wiped out when we went to war in Bosnia, and he was attending school in Austria.
He also obviously hadn't read much of the Koran because he was certain it said to love everyone and that it teaches people to love one another.
He was only 22, though, and I realize he was a young idealist who had a very loving family and is out of touch with reality.
In Israel (I was there five months ago) people loved America so much, in fact, do they love America they have more love for America, it seemed to me, than the Americans I know in America. In Australia people liked America,
In Japan most young people like America but the older generation does not . Why would they when they remember what our government ordered the military to do to them?
Japanese people are wonderful people on the average. They were simply victims of a bad dictator tyrant king who forced them to go abroad and fight for him against their will or he would kill their families. Our misguided president dropped atom bombs on Nagasaki and Hiroshima a day after their Imperial tyrant, Hirohito, surrendered, Roosevelt had innocent civilians, women and children waiting at home, killed, some believe, to test out how the atom bombs worked.
"Einstein Deplores Use of Atom Bomb", New York Times, 8/19/46, pg. 1). Einstein later wrote, "I have always condemned the use of the atomic bomb against Japan." (Otto Nathan & Heinz Norden, editors, "Einstein on Peace", pg. 589).
I n November 1954, five months before his death, Einstein summarized his feelings about his role in the creation of the atomic bomb: "I made one great mistake in my life... when I signed the letter to President Roosevelt recommending that atom bombs be made; but there was some justification - the danger that the Germans would make them." (Clark, pg. 752).
The Chinese people I've met loved America, and wished they lived here. They spoke little English and only knew that Americans had a freer life. Their government keeps them the dark about world events, it seems, but a Chinese guy gave me a friendship ring off his finger which I will always treasure and I hardly knew him.
I had a friend from Pakistan who didn't care that I was American, he still became my close friend, and same with a guy from Saudi Arabia whose favorite drinking buddy was an Israeli.
Only Egyptians and Syrians and a few Jordanians I met seemed to hate America a lot, and they hate Israel even more. The Palestinians I met in Israel were not honest about events, but some of them hate everyone but some of them were just people like you and me who don't care about governments and want to relate to people as individuals on a one on one basis aware that people are not their governments and that it is unfair to blame individuals for what sick leaders do with the money they extract from the populace at large. Government.
Kuwaiti Muslims come to America to go to school and marry American citizens often. Canadians I met in Mexico were fine with my being an American. Quite a few Russians I met were delighted to make friends with an American and wanted to keep in touch.
Source(s): Barack O. might hate America more than most other foreigners. He uses drones to kill people in Pakistan these days and seems to be uniting our enemies against us. - Mr.357Lv 78 years ago
No. I have a definite dislike for frogs. Those g** d*** f***** f****** would all be speaking German if it was not for the US and French would be a dead language.

I think the republicans earned the hate very well.
