I can't think of anything more liberal than rapid change (almost always for the worse). the king had changed the way he intended to govern the colonies. They revolted against this change. i can't think of a more conservative action.
mark you are quite adept at semantics. you must hold public office as a democrat or are a very prominent liberal attorney.
bottom line they wanted to conserve their way of governing themselves through representation with little interference, if any, from the crown. torys and loyalists wanted to capitulate to the king's whims. sounds liberal to me.

But the word "tory" refers to a conservative, yes? The American colonists who were "tories" were trying to CONSERVE their relationship with the English government, right?
