Can a 25+year survivor of meningitis have memory problems this long after the illness?

My biggest problem is with recent spouses of old friends. I come upon them in the store and know I know them, smile and wave, then hear how I "snubbed" them. It has only happened twice, so I can"t recognize a trend or anything, but is this a possibility?
