How many Kaisersemmel are consumed every day in Austria?

I do like a nice roll in the morning.

Well, if you refer to the real Kaisersemmel, hand-made, the number would be likely under 10,000 per day or less.

Machine produced, the numbers are staggering: a large bakery like Pilz, produces about 380,000 Semmel per day. There are about 1500 bakeries left in Austria, many quite small, and the number is shrinking. No idea what the average output for all is.

In 2008 Austria produced 420,750 t of these goods for the year. Each Semmel must be a minimum of 46 g, so you simply divide, then by 365 days, subtract about 30% for returns and you have a rough number. Remember, a t (ton) is a 1000 kg and a kg has 1000 g (grams).

    Have fun.
