96 Dodge Caravan Starts without battery?
We had a 96 Dodge Caravan come in with an electrical problem. We put it in the lot and disconnected the battery from the vehicle. While we working on another vehicle the vehicle started by itself. When we investigated the battery was vacant as well we attempt to short the vehicle by touching the hot battery lead to the chassis but failed to disable the vehicle. The vehicle ignition was in the off position. We then pulled the computer fuse which failed to turn off the vehicle. We then pulled the Fuel pump fuse which did disable the vehicle.
The question is why did the vehicle start without a battery, ignition to off and a pulled Computer Fuse?
Michael, There are no other batteries and only a stock Audio. I agree about the massive short, but that still does not explain how the vehicle started with no battery, as well as removing the computer fuse did not kill the vehicle.

are you sure it was completely disconnected, and if so, I have seen some vehicles with large audio systems have 2 or 3 batteries, is this one of those? It sounds as if you have a massive short somewhere on the vehicle, and that is something only a mechanic looking physically at it can resolve. sorry.

that's any variety of issues out of your starter to the alternator or the spark plugs or the gasoline equipment. the thank you to do away with the starter or alternator is by using taking them off and then have them bench checked at a community aspects shop like improve or AutoZone. i think of even some Napa shops try this now yet whilst those come back as being ok then it must be the plugs, plug wires, or coil packs. yet another factor you should attempt is see if all and sundry you already know has a OBD II fault reader and notice if the engine is kicking a fault code.
