Is it cheaper to buy an 2000 Audi TT with a 116,000 miles on it for 5K and just change the engine for 3K?
Ok so i am in a dilemma here, i was trying to figure out how to buy my dream car for under 9K. I am talking about an 2000 Audi TT, the models today look exactly the same but they cost over 25K which of course i cannot afford at the moment. However, someone around my area is selling their Audi TT for 5,000, and it has 116,000 miles on it, i went online to see how much would cost if i buy the engine and change it, it costs like 3K. But after i do that i'll be able to use the car for the next couple of years and i don't have to worry about anything or even go over my budget right now, which is 8K the most. Do you think this is a good idea or not? If i buy the Audi for 5K and change the engine after a year or two for 3K i can use it for probably the next 5 or more years. The body is in an excellent shape, same with the interior, it's brilliant and i know someone who can help me put the engine together for free as well. What is your opinion?
Thank you all for the attention and kind comments, I really do appreciate it. The car is in a very good shape, they're selling it because the guy wants to buy another newer model of Audi. The carfax is pretty good as well. 116,000 is pretty good for now yeah but i just wanted to have plan 'b' if in a few years something happens and the car dies on me, i don't know it was just a thought. Thank you though! :)

If theres nothing wrong with the motor in it, why replace it?? 116k miles isnt that bad. Id say just buy the audi and if its needs a small repair, just take it to a shop to fix it instead of spend 3k to swap engines. Dont try to fix something thats not broken!

Prepare to spend a fortune if you ever need to have any work done on an Audi.
Parts are also incredibly expensive and the car is not cheap to own at all.
If you really want an Audi and don't mind paying a fortune for maintenance, go for it.
Otherwise get a Japanese import or American car.

Why would you want to put a engine in the car so fast. First thing see if you can bring the car to your mechanic and really check the car over .for your piece of mind .after that then you have a good idea what may fail or need work to be done . Or is the car a problem child that is why they may be selling it at a low price .

Dont do it , Your just buying some ones problem , You buy a broke car that what you have , It all ways leads in to some thing els stay away from it , You will be sorry if you dont , Its the engine now Next it will be the trans , Just get some thing that will get you by and save your money and a good deal will come along 4-you and you will be better off , good luck in what you do .

Why anyone would want an Audi is beond me, take my word for it sweetheart that German engineering ain't all its cracked up to be, have them brakes checked? there's another $3k how about that transmission? there's another $12k, so you found another Kraut engine for $3k? yea OK so who's gonna install that for you? think the price of the engine comes with free installation? you ain't got a clue do you? dream car equals money pit in your case darling

I would consult Kelly Blue Book and see if the 2000 audi is a better buy than the engine.
