is it normal for a 5.3l chevrolet engine to use oil on a new truck?
I have a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado which I bought new in July 2012. It is using 1/2 quart every 3000
miles . I have dad the first oil change done and the motor has less than 10,000 miles so far.

If you feel there is an issue with your Silverado, please address it with your dealership. They should be able to properly diagnose and repair any problems if they occurring. If you decide to take it in, please let us know how the service goes. If you send an e-mail to gmcustsvc@yahoo.com, please include your VIN#, name, situation, dealership name, and contact information. I hope all concerns are resolved quickly for you.

10,000 miles and only one oil change?
You can do an oil sample and see what the oil breakdown looks like, but I'd start by changing the oil more often- especially on a brand new engine. I know that's old school thinking, but it works.

You have to be kidding. You think a quart every 6,000 miles is excessive oil use?

It's still in break-in mode... so I would not worry about it yet.
It should not be burning oil after 7500 miles or so.
