Why does my bearded dragon dig?

I have a bearded dragon that is under a year old its to small to even tell if its a boy or girl and all it does all day is dig. When I get home from work I flatten out the sand and recover the spots it dug to the bottom of the tank. Then the next day its all full of holes again.

Its totally normal for beardies to dig(: they do it to make a nice basking spot or a nice place to lay, i dont suggest you cover them up because he/she could get frustrated. But it is perfectly normal c:

If you want to know more about bearded dragons you can find here a good guide: http://www.goobypls.com/r/rd.asp?gid=571

Bearded dragons are easy to house and very friendly animals. You need to be familiar with housing, feeding and maintenance so a good book can really help. This is a nice one I recommend http://www.goobypls.com/r/rd.asp?gid=571

    Beardies are known to dig.

    1. to burrow away from high heat.

    2. to maintain a good cool body temp.

also females are known to dig to ready themselves to lay a steady clutch of eggs. good luck

It is just in their nature to dig, in the desert, they will dig in the sand to burrow and keep cool. Because, underground is colder than than above ground. So, you might want to check your temps just in case, but if your temps are fine, maybe he is just burrowing & digging because it is in his nature.

He shouldn't be on sand. If its the kind from the petstore, take it out and put him on reptile carpet or even paper towels. Sand can be really bad for them.

Probably because he's trying to get out of the crap hole you call a "home."
