When does the resurrection take place?

I just read an interesting comment:

"Those who have died, visited heaven and come back add some information but even their input is very limited."

No I am not doubting the sincerity of who ever these people are, but I am highly doubting the reality. Just because they think something happened doesn't make it real.

This question is prompted by this statement, but also by others who have Christians going right to heaven.

When does the Bible say the resurrection will take place?

What is the resurrection? How many are there? (resurrections that is).

If the Bible states something different about the resurrections than most of Christianity is teaching, what are you as a Christian going to do about it?

Update:

Edit:

I am not talking about awakenings--like Lazarus and others, this is different than resurrections, because they simply went back to the grave after time.

I also am not asking for a date and time, but the Scriptures are abundantly clear when it will happen. So saying we don't know is a cop out--sorry but it is.

Can I assume unlike the other answers, you refer to a resurrection of more than one person at a time? Several people were individually resurrected to life, but died again in the natural order of things. Jesus is the only one that stayed alive after his resurrection.

I take it you do refer to what the Bible calls the first and second resurrections.

The first one refers to only those who are to rule with him in heaven as both kings and priests. (Rev. 20:6) The first time humans were giving the invitation to go to heaven was with this group. Jesus said, "28 “However, YOU are the ones that have stuck with me in my trials; 29 and I make a covenant with YOU, just as my Father has made a covenant with me, for a kingdom, 30 that YOU may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones to judge the twelve tribes of Israel." (Luke 22:29-30) That Kingdom and Jesus would both be in heaven, so that is where they would go too.

That 1st resurrection would begin when Jesus took his throne, logically, and also it would be invitation only. In no way would it be any sloppy, "Y'all come!" where anybody could waltz in. It would be only those both God and Christ chose by agreement to be invited.

The 2nd one is the "big tamale" including all those chosen by God to be resurrected back to faithful Abel, David and John the Baptist. Thousands or perhaps millions or billions may be included in that one. Paul referred to that as, "that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous." (Acts 24:15) That opens things up for a whole lot of people in the last 6,000 years.

These will be God and Christ's choices, not any humans. This second resurrection is scheduled to be after Armageddon has destroyed all of Satan's cruel organization with all of its human supporters.

Certainly if Jesus did not know when Armageddon would happen, no human would know. (Matt. 24:36) Just as when clouds in the sky turn dark and the wind blows stronger, we know a storm is coming. So too with the signs Jesus gave us in the 24th chapter of Matthew. True it had a minor fulfillment when the Romans destroyed Jerusalem, but the modern day fulfillment should be what we are interested in because it involves us.

"3 For YOU know this first, that in the last days there will come ridiculers with their ridicule, proceeding according to their own desires 4 and saying: “Where is this promised presence of his? Why, from the day our forefathers fell asleep [in death], all things are continuing exactly as from creation’s beginning.” (2 Peter 3:3-4) No they are not. The frequency and magnitude of all these things coming together is off the charts from the past.

We then know we are living in the last days and that means the resurrection will soon be here. After a thorough cleansing of the planet takes place.

"and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, and came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many." (Matthew 27:52,53) Before Jesus died for our sins the dead were simply asleep. When Jesus said "It is finished" And gave up the ghost, it was done He conquered death. He didn't rise until the third day but what He came to do was accomplished. As far as I understand there are two resurrections and two deaths. "The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended. This is the first resurrection" (Revelation 20:5). I think the second one is the very end when evil gets thrown down and locked up for good. And that will also be the second death for those. And the alive in Christ risen to eternal life indefinitely. And it is written to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord, "We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord." (2 Cor 5:8) Personally, I have heard some stories of people dying and going to heaven or hell and some who may have just had visions or dreams, God only knows. He is the revealer of truth. I do believe that God gives people experiences like these from time to time to stir us up, waken our souls, warn us, encourage us, etc. And also to test our faith. Maybe some are false and made up, but we have the Spirit of God to help us discern what is false from truth. Besides that, we can just ask Him if it's true. I thank you for this because I think it is important to know these things and I will spend more time looking into this, the resurrection.

It occurs any time God wants it to. example: Lazarus. Also, Revelation 11 has two witnesses being raised regardless of the others.

So when you say, "the Resurrection", you mean a specific event, I think. There is more than one Resurrection though. There is a resurrection written about by Paul in 1 Corinthians 15:52 "in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet", telling us an event when that Resurrection will take place; at the end of the Great Tribulation upon the return of Jesus. There is another resurrection occurring after everything else has transpired; when all the dead are received, according to Revelation 20:11-15.

Note this: That the spirit of people are not with the body, as I understand it, they continue. The Resurrections, if you ask me, are referring to the body; the fleshly body, not the spirit of people. I do not believe that the spirit of people who died stay with the body on earth, nor do I believe that the spirit sleeps after death. I don't think that spirits need sleep or lose consciousness.

Whatever the Bible says, but you have to compare verse with verse to get the whole story. I believe people DO go to heaven when they die if they are saved already. Did you read the parable Jesus told about Lazarus and the rich man?

    On the last day !

    John 11:23-26

23 Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” 24 Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise again *** in the resurrection on the last day.”*** 25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life.4 Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, 26 and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?”

When you go to sleep and have a dream about the resurrection. That's when resurrection takes place. According to the Hebrew Scriptures, literally, resurrection never takes place. The grave where one goes to after death, he or she will never rise again.

    Source(s): Job 7:9; 10:21; 2 Samuel 12:23; Psalm 49:1; Proverbs 2:19; etc, etc.

The resurrection happened 2013 years ago. That's what 2013 A.D. (standing for anno Domini, which means 'in the year of our Lord'.) means (or as many people say, after death)
