Christians: Questions on Immortality?

Many like to say we are immortal, what is that based on and who does it harmonize with these scriptures?

Rom_2:7 To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:

Why would we seek for immortality if we already have it?

1Co_15:53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

1Co_15:54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

How do we put on immortality?

1Ti_6:16 Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.

If God only has immortality, how can we say we have it?

2Ti_1:10 But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:

1Co 15:42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: (immortal)

This scripture is talking about the Faithful Christian--they are raised immortal---so did they have it before?

1Co 15:50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. (immortality)

How do we inherit immortality if we already have it?

If you are not going to attempt to answer the questions, I will give you a thumbs down. I am asking for a scriptural answer.

Update:

Edit:

Pray for the World---May I ask you to read the scriptures I quote, especially 1 Tim 6:16 and revise your answer? You usually give some good answers, but I don't find this answer backed with any scriptures and based on your reasoning, we also should be able to know the end from the beginning, we should be able to create something from nothing, because God can and we are in His image. Can you do these things?

    Hello,

    You are correct.

How can we as mere humans be immortal when we were born in sin (Ps. 51:5; Rom. 3:23: 7:21-25).

Some are now immortal, alongside Jesus, as some of the texts you mention point out. This occurred after 1914, when the 'first resurrection' (Rev. 20:6: 'happy and holy') began.

    Kind regards, Günter

Hello, you will never see the word immortality associated with the word "soul" (living breathing being). The belief that all beings are created (born) immortal and that effectively death is merely a transformation from one form of life to another continued consciousness (and not ceasing to EXIST) is a pagan belief and not one the emerges in scripture. (see Ecc 9:5)

Immortality* - ressurection to spirit life in heaven - is a gift to the righteous ONLY. And that for a very limited number of 144,000 (see Rev 14:1) the rest of the righteous have EVERLASTING LIFE (not immortality) on earth (see Math 5:5, Math 6:10)

*Note if the wicked (and indeed Satan) is tortured forever, they are effectively IMMORTAL.

Source(s): It would be helpful for your bible studies if you learnt the different between a SOUL a SPIRIT.

Man seeks immortality thru the flesh...but there is none. The only immortality for humans is thru the spirit...and where you going to spend that eternity?

    Jesus loves you....

Apart from the sustaining hand of God, none of us would live another nanosecond. He alone has immortality. Fortunately for us, it is His desire to enjoy all of His creation throughout the ages.

Since God created us in his image, therefore we have immortality. We will live forever either with the Lord or not. But the second death is not life, it's torture.

    oh boy, that was long.

we have eternal life. we have mind and body. when we die this body will rot and decay back into the soil and the spirit body enter the spirit world.
