I feel like this is "guess the possible answers" scenario

is this woman single? why are there children but no child support?

did children's father die? if so, was he a vet or what was his work history?

is the woman on SSI, SSDI, or possibly even off the record of children's father

    let's go the simplest route

woman has kids & has become permanently disabled

if she had enough work credits, she gets SSDI & also benefits for the children

if she did not, then she gets SSI & no benefits for the children

she applies for foodstamps, medicaid, and any other form of welfare she can get... possibly moves to government/section 8 housing

because she applies for foodstamps, medicaid, and any other form of welfare.... then the state will go after father(s) of children for support & recoup some of the cost of welfare

if father is on SSI, she doesn't get anything

And she needs to know that it can take years (it took my case 3 years with the support of 5 doctors and 2 voc rehab counselors) ---- so you need a plan in place to support yourself & children while going through the process

I would STRONGLY suggest this Mom goes to Voc Rehab and attempt to find any work that is within the limits of her abilities before filing for SSDI/SSI --- if it turns out that Mom could have done menial task, minimum wage work... then she could waste months or years hoping for disability only to find out she doesn't actually qualify

  • She get food stamps, applies for Medicaid for her kids, and she struggles. Social Services may attempt to find the father of the children and lawfully get her child support by court action.
