Are coaches and managers allowed to play?

For some reason I thought that I read somewhere that managers and coaches are technically allowed to play. I know years ago they did ( ie Eddie Collins was a coach with the A's and pinch hit occasionally).

Im assuming the can because of the history of player managers..ie Pete Rose.

They can, but have to be on the active 25 Man Roster AS a player. They can't have a full roster of 25 and then insert themselves into the line-up without being on it already.

An MLB player can also manage or coach. There is nothing that prohibits it.
