Motorcycle Security in Aus?

Hey, thanks for viewing. Short and sweet, i'm converting to the fast world of Sport Motorcycles. I want a Kawasaki 250 2012 bike, and will be paying probably lots of money on OEM items, the bike itself and a plethora of security options. I've read however, that it'll amount to jack. Bikes have a much higher theft rate than cars, and can easily be stolen or stripped for parts by scum.

Question is, is a motorcycle in general worth investing into? Should I give up the dream and buy another box with wheels? I love motorcycles, I've never had one before and would absolutely love to own one. I love the the thrill and joy of owning a sports bike, and have thought about the adrenaline rush from riding 190kms down the M4! But all these theft statistics and whatnot is really making me feel sick to my stomach, and i've heard of people getting robbed in their homes, just for their motorcycles and their parts?! Jesus, do people have no morals anymore? Thanks guys, your answer will determine whether I should fork out or kill off my passion.

You have to manage your theft exposure in comparison to an effort to preserve your motorcycle. Multiple locks threw the brake disks, manage exposure lighting and placement, place an additional sonic lock threw a disk that will produce a loud sound, tracking devices if the bike is abducted, devices that will phone you up if the bike is moved. A bike cover helps in that it keeps a thief guessing what the value of the bike is worth. Run an additional chain threw the frame and to a large stationary object. Cast a heavy steel loop in a block of cement and bury it chaining bike frame to iron loop.

There is nothing you can do to stop a determined thief...you can only deter or slow him down.

Source(s): I stopped at a sonic lock XENA and display it in a visually prominate place as a deterrent.

No, do not kill off your passion. Bikes get stolen for sure but it's not as bad as you think. Harleys are the thieves choice. If you take basic simple precautions, no one will steal your bike.

HD's are valuable so thieves will go to great lengths to steal them. A Kawasaki 250 is not worth the professional thiefs time. The only scum that will steal them are opportunistic dickhea ds, so the solution is, keep your bike locked up.

"and have thought about the adrenaline rush from riding 190kms down the M4!"

Bad idea. If the cops catch you, say goodbye to every driving/riding privilege for a couple of years. Plus, I doubt if a 250 will go that fast.
