why 1 day is sub divided into 24 hours?

Hi friends

I have one doubt about clocks so pls clarify..

1 full rotation of earth itself is called 1 day. But why we further classified to 24 hours not any other number.. And also why 1 hour classified into 60 minutes?

thanks to spent your time(3 minutes)..

Update:

1 year = 365 days

1 day = 24 hours

1 hour = 60 mins

1 min = 60 sec

1 sec = 1 milli sec

These all everyone knows. My question is why not any other number has to replace that 24 hours and 60min?

It originated with the ancient Egyptians who counted in 12s rather than our present 10s. This has advantages - more integer factors for example. They divided both day and night into 12 hours each.

We know this from the markings on sundials of the period.

Other early civilisations used a 60 base system because 60 has so many factors and this gave rise to the subdivisions of hours and minutes in time and degrees in angular measurement.

What would you suggest and why would it be better?

whilst the Romans created the Julius calendar they made it based on the moon, stars, and sunlight. So the elementary 24-hour day is predicated off of astronomy and the moon relationship to the celebs and sunlight.
