How to wire a 3 phase induction motor for a generator in stand alone mode in 4 wire wye connection?
I have a 7.5 horse 5.5 kw 3 phase motor and I want to build a stand alone generator for a 3 phase 4 wire 230 volt wye system. More importantly what size capacitors do I use and would they be the same size if I wanted to make the system in 480 volt 3 wire delta. How do I wire the capacitors and the motor to get a neutral?

A stand-alone induction generator indeed requires a capacitor in parallel for excitation, but the voltage will fluctuate, together with the load. You would need a variable capacitor acting as a voltage regulator.
The capacitor has to match the motor impedance, for it to work. The motor impedance will change with the load, and so will the voltage.
You cannot make a 230 wye motor work with 480 volts delta. Maybe you could the otherway around, by changing somewhat the voltage and frequency which have to maintain a constant ratio and will require a vfd.

Unless you are having an unbalanced load, you do not need a neutral. But, the effects of an unbalanced load on a stand-alone induction generator would be unpredictable, at best.
I suggest you stay with a proven setup.
