Rock and Pop- do you find it funny, sweet, or weird when you hear a child's voice in a song?

It's cool that there are artists out there who try to get kids involved with making music, but I think it's funny sometimes when I hear a kid's voice in there. Sometimes it fits, sometimes it's weird, sometimes it's comical. Anyways, your thoughts?

BQ- can you remember singing or performing anything on stage when you were a kid?

I had to sing "Brown eyed girl" by Van Morisson for this beauty pageant when I was 7.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TG8Ect3Xn7w

BQ2- What plays a more important role in composition, technicality or creativity?

I'd like to say creativity, but I'm thinking that you have to know how to play before you can start to get creative. It'd be interesting to hear your thoughts.

I probably won't ask anything for a little while, some reporter trolls are stalking me or something. Anyway, thanks for any answers guys :)

Update:

@Death Walking Terror- Agreed, that cracked me up XD

Update 2:

@Eliot- about your 2nd BQ- yeah that's what I thought originally as well, but then I thought "how can you tinker around and experiment with your creativity if you have no idea how to play?"

I guess, to me, it's one of those "which came first, the chicken or the egg" deals.

Update 3:

@Birdy- Interesting point!

And I was so terrified up there on that stage, I actually spoke the words instead of singing them x] but, I had a great time still. Before that I had to pretend to be a cowgirl and do an actual lariat twirl on stage, which put me in the finals so I was happy :) Thanks for your answer!

Update 4:

@Kurama-kun- ....well, I'll bet you were fun to hang out with in 1st grade ;P haha!

Update 5:

@Kurama (2)- You won a spelling bee in first grade?! My, you're soooo special, you deserve a sticker ;P Bahaha!

Update 6:

@Love Among Ruins- ROCKY!!! I forgot to wish you Happy Birthday D: I feel guilty now, so....Happy Late Bday :D And thank you for your answer. I love how you said that you have to have drive first and foremost, that's a good point.

Update 7:

@Kurama (3)- What do you want, a cookie cake? Geesh! x) I'd tell you to spell supercalifragilisticexpialidocious backwards, but that would be kinda redundant.

Update 8:

@Kurama (4)- you got legs, get moving. Discussion= closed ^-^

I always find it annoying. I'm sorry, but it always throws me off rhythm and takes me out of the song, even with 'Another Brick in the Wall' I didn't like it.

BQ: When I was 6 my first grade class sang Christmas songs for all our parents in the cafeteria. I remember this one girl spelled 'Christmas' wrong on her hat in glitter and I told her she was stupid ;p

BQ2: Composition. No matter how creative you are, if you don't know the intricacies or at least the fundamentals of composing, than you're just banging away at an instrument.

Edit: Ok, I won the 1st grade spelling bee, and then we all get Santa hats to wear on stage, and we're supposed to write stuff on them with glitter, and this moron spells Christmas with a 'K'. I mean, it was an insult to my championship. I had to correct her XD

Edit 2: Ummm, excuse me, I won the spelling bee in 1st, 2nd, AND 3rd grade. Like a boss! I only lost it in 4th grade because the teacher cheated! I spelled 'Greyhound' correctly, but I just said 'G' instead of 'capital G'. What a stupid technicality.

Edit 3: Actually, I'd prefer an ice cream sundae. *Claps hands* Chop chop! I'll eat it while I stare at my certificates of victory.

Source(s): I bet you were adorable up on that stage :)

    Hello Anjellex ~~;-)

Mentioning that about kids in music reminded me of this song. If Alice Cooper isn't weird enough, he has to put kids in this song. lol Kind of creepy...

Alice Cooper ~ The Ballad Of Dwight Fry

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVxr63WaRrs

BQ: I cant sing for the life of me, and never tortured anybody trying to, but I loved to dance and did the whole ballet and tap dancing thing when I was a kid and did a couple of stage performances. I was probably only 7-8, I think I got a pic somewhere with me in a tutu! lololo

BQ2: I think creativity first. You have to want to create first off. I think some people are just born with that gift to be creative and those are he ones that have the love for the arts in their blood and are constantly trying to improve on their craft. Its like something they need to survive.

It is neat and it makes a song more attractive to a child. So, when I was young I noticed it a lot.

This is one of the first that I noticed... God of Thunder - Kiss http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mmHZ9vrcgxA

BQ: No, I was never in a pageant or anything ..how cool that must have been for you! I would "serenade" people in my family, but never sang in front of a crowd.

BQ2: I would have to say composition (as if I know what I am talking about)

    Sorry about the trolls!

It depends on how the child's voice is used in the song. I agree with what you said, but sometimes the use of a child's voice can be really disturbing, for example this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bXV71xzDdJE

BQ: Yeah, I don't remember what the song was though

BQ2: Creativity imo, technicality is important but you don't need to be an extremely talented instrumentalist/singer to make amazing music

I recall a certain interview with Eminem where he talks about his daughter in the recording studio :)

To be honest I'm always kinda creeped out by kids random voices in songs but I think Nightwise used a whole chorus in one song, and then there's Orphaned Land's The Birth of The Three which I enjoyed ~

Pink Floyd The Wall spring to mind.

    Carpenters - Sing {of course!} ~

RZA/Bobby Digital - You Can't Stop Me Now {cool song, love dat ramblin' bass) ~

I guess they're not that annoying after all :)

BA: No by my family has this story about my sister who went to perform on stage and got the butterflied so she remembered only the first line and kept singing that for like a minute and had to be called off stage and cry in the bathroom hahahahaha XD

BA2: Creativity - no doubt. There has to be a certain "touch", a certain "atmosphere" to make me remember the song. Technicality is only good for me as a musician to learn, unless you can restrain yourself unlike most musicians, and learn to play with the soul.

I know that feeling Anjel, I know that feeling. Wait I don't >_< we've been through this... :)

I find it annoying. I don't want to hear a kid, I want to hear the band.

BQ: Lots of times. I was in band from 7th -12th grade, and I think we did a play in the 3rd grade. Marching band was the best though.

BQ2: I'm going with you on this one. I heard a story that Paul McCartney once decided to use every instrument in the studio in one song. It did not sound good.

It think that it ruins the song -unless it's a song specifically written for children. Same for a music video. The only exception is Another Brick In The Wall.

most of the time i enjoy hearing a child's voice in a song. in Alice Cooper's case, he doesn't need to include kids, he's the kid with the creepy voice, and i love it so much.

there are so many videos i love that have kids in them. this is one of my favourites.

    Queen - The Miracle

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aHPZkAM4dSM

BQ : aww... i clicked on your link expecting to hear you in full voice !

no. stage fright. teachers had no chance of getting me involved in anything.

    BQ2 : creativity, then technicality

Depends on the song... Shinedown's 'The Dream' is creepy.

BQ: I played some piano recitals.

    BQ2: I say creativity.

I guess it depends on the song.

    Sweet:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPfmNxKLDG4

    Beck-Where It's At "that's beautiful dad"

    Funny AND weird:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zng2MwBrfvY

Metallica- Breadfan "mommy, where's fluffy?" ..... the hell? lol

BA2- I think technicality. Like you said, it's the first step in the process.
