Maths Homework help? Gradients and Intercepts?
Im having trouble with my maths homework its not that im lazy it because i actually have no idea what to do, so can you guys please help? ^-^ thanks (btw the topic is graphs)
Rearrange these equations in the form of y= mx+c.
Write find the gradient and the intercept.
x + y = 1 y= ? m= ? c= ?
5y = 10x + 2 y= ? m= ? c= ?
3x - 10y = 7 y= ? m= ? c= ?

The first thing with all of them is to put them in the standard linear form (the y = mx + c)
x + y = 1 ==> y = -x + 1, so m = -1 and c = 1
5y = 10x + 2 ==> y = 2x + 2/5 so m = 2 and c = 2/5
3x -10y = 7 ==> 10y = 3x -7 ==> y = 3x/10 - 7/10 so m = 3/10 and c = -7/10

x + y = 1
Subtract x from both sides ...
y = -x + 1 i.e. m = -1 (gradient is -1) and the line crosses the y axis at 1
5y = 10x + 2
Divide both sides by 5 ...
y = 2x + 2/5 i.e. m = 2 (gradient is 2) and the line crosses the y axis at 2/5
3x - 10y = 7
Subtract 3x from both sides ...
-10y = -3x + 7
Divide both sides by -10 ...
y = (3/10)x - 7/10 i.e. m = 3/10 (gradient is 3/10) and the line crosses the y axis at -7/10

Had you adopted the guide and graphed it, you may see the line intersept the y axis at 1, and counting squares up to , say, 3 and over 1, you may have the slope. Later, educate offers you a graph without the equation and mean you can do it once more.
