2000 Mustang GT Engine Compatibilities?

I have a 2000 Mustang GT that has a 4.6L v8 in it that is bad. I was wondering where would be the best place to find a replacement motor for it and if it would be possible to put any other engine in it easily that isn't a 4.6L that would be compatible with the setup. Any information would be appreciated..TY

First, the other guy is wrong. 1999-04 just shared the same bodystyle but the 4.6L went through major changes during that time so only certain years of Mustang 4.6L will be a relatively inexpensive and easy swap. In fact, only another used 2000 Mustang engine will be compatible. Nothing before or after 2000 will work without modifying electrical and fuel, systems and accompanying sensors none of which is easy or makes any sense to do even if you know what mods you have to make to get it to work.

The block, heads, and crankshafts among many other things changed throughout the years depending on model, year, and where the engine was produced. There were SOHC(singe overhead cam) and DOHC(dual ") versions and 2V, 3V, and 4V(valves per cylinder) versions as well.

Also, only a Mustang will have a compatible 4.6L engine since all other models used different intakes that are not compatible and will not even fit under the hood because they are taller. Most other models with the 4.6L also had less HP.

In short, if you are not going to rebuild or have your engine rebuilt then look for a used or rebuilt engine from a 2000 Mustang GT only from a local salvage yard(used and they can order in parts including engine from across the country for a price), Craigslist, Ebay, or an engine rebuilder. It's usually just best to have your original engine rebuilt at a local machine shop or speed shop since you know everything is already compatible.

Another 4.6L from a 99-04 Mustang will swap easily. That's it.

They used the same engine for a few years. Not sure of the exact years. I do know the 1999 is the exact same engine though. Find out the exact years and that will better your chances of finding an engine.
