Here we go again...women in combat. What is the issue?

Okay, as a vet, I'm for it. Most women I've known in the military can perform any job just as good or better than most men I've served with.

Ability is not the issue.

Then what is the issue?

Well, to me the issue is that they have a CHOICE....Men don't.

Another form of Sanctioned Governmental Discrimination.

Women are given choices that men do not have.

Why can't it be truly fair and equal? If you join the Military, you are automatically required to live up to ALL standards placed equally on every member of that service.

Why is one sector allowed to pick and choose what they will or won't do? Yet, the vast majority of those in the service get NO CHOICE at all.

Just doesn't seem fair to me.

Update:

Thanks for the link, I missed that one and it's good to see more answers to the same question.

Update 2:

@Dust...I think that is what I'm saying here....if an American meets the height, weight, intellect, emotional, physical requirements to accomplish the mission, then shouldn't they be allowed to do so?

Should it matter if they are Socialist, Religious, Female, Male, Gay, Married, Black or White?

If they can run with the platoon or squad the same distance in the same time in the same gear, if they can shoot as accurately or throw a grenade a set, minimum distance, shouldn't they be allowed to fight?

And by the same token, if they are Capable to do so, shouldn't women, gays, etc be required to do so, and not given the choice? I mean I wasn't give a choice....no one asked me, "Do you want to go to Iraq and get shot at?" Of course, I'd have said no given the choice, but I CHOSE to join, therefore, I Chose to do as directed.

That's the part I have a bit of an issue with.

    Mr. Solution,

I am with you for the most part. Most of the jobs in the military can be effectively handled without regard to gender. I feel all jobs in and out of the military should have the very same requirements, mentally, morally and physically.

The PC police have now directed that we must allow all genders to serve in combat units. Again, I'm okay with that as long the playing field is level. The physical requirements for any position should be the same. This includes basic training.

I looked at the minimum requirements for the USMC. I see that males must be able to do a minimum of 3 pull ups where females do not. Females are only required to do a 15 second "flexed-arm" hang. In a fire fight, I don't want less than the minimum regardless of gender!

So, here is my question. Why are the PC police (current administration) all hell bend on getting females and gay/lesbians into every corner of military without regard to the real mission? (Fighting and winning.)

Why doesn't the PC police go after those completely racist and sexist sports teams?

Could you just imagine the NBA with 40% females on the team and mandated equal representation of races? 5% Asian, 20% African American, 25% Hispanic and so on?

Edit: It just struck me about Selective Service Registration. I wonder if Panetta will mandate the registration of females as well.

    I agree with that 100%.

But I do have some issues with women in combat today, considering these Islamic savages don't abide by any 'rules of war'. Hell they shoot school girls for fun. And I don't think I have to explain to you what happens when they capture males.

Can you imagine what a female "POW" would suffer through? Call me old school or put whatever label you want on me but I think it's a very bad idea. I know Israel and others do it but that has a lot to do with numbers imo. The USA doesn't 'Need' women in front line combat units. If we did I might reconsider but I still wouldn't like the idea.

You must have been in an underwater mess kit repair battalion or something just as wimpy if you can sit there and say that the women you served with were your equal.

Women do not have the physical strength and stamina to serve EFFECTIVELY in a front-line infantry unit. There's also a valid question of their psychological ability to stand up to the mental strain of a fire fight.

Lets start out with the fact that I have never served in the military.

    Now my questions ?

1.Won't soldiers take more of a risk to save a wounded women in the line of fire , than another soldier ?

    2. How will we deal with the fact that women soldiers taken captive will be sexually assulted by the enemy ?

For these reasons I am against the idea. Just my opinion.

Implanting false recollections is the easiest trick on this planet. It's done on daily basis, no technological know-how required. False reminiscences won't exchange someone's persona. The cynical individual will don't forget it from a cynical attitude, the grandiose from a grandiose angle.

I agree. Women in the military should be treated just as the men. It sends a mixed message about equality. I think that the military is headed in that direction now. Eventually, this will be thing of the past.

Sorry, but it seems like when someone doesn't like something they just call it an inequality issue. Even if something has reasoning someone will say it's racist, sexist, homophobic, etc. (in this case just sexist) to get attention for it.

Women can serve in combat, just not a front line or infantry unit. Just certain MOS are restricted for various reasons... Not because people just go "Nope, women are inferior" obviously.
