What is network used for in an A/V receiver?

I'm shopping for my first A/V receiver and have narrowed it down to one that doesn't have network and one that does. What is network in an A/V receiver used / good for?

Mostly for streaming music off the internet using Pandora

Everything seems to want internet access these days.

I suspect the receiver may have some 'apps' like Pandora that can stream music. Look at the details.

One suggestion - if both devices look the same, buy the heavier one.

One of the parts that allow your amp to run cooler and handle power demands better is the transformer. This massive hunk of metal tends to define how good the amp is. (There are other things as well, but this is one obvious thing you can measure.)

    Good Luck.

Here's my answer: Review the info on the question you answered of mine. No. It's not the internet connection, the video plays fine on my VGA monitor versus the hdmi.. it is the SAME video, whether it's being played on a vga, hdmi, or dvi out. So, you're wrong. ALSO. if I let the video load fully in the browser and THEN play it, it is STILL jumpy, which further disproves your overly confident response. ALSO! The audio still plays fine, it's just the video is jumpy.. so if it was the internet connection, wouldn't you assume THAT would be jumpy as well..?

Either you're not as fancy hot shot "15+ years of experience" as you say you are, or you just read a section of my post and assumed you had it figured out. Either way, **** you.

    Source(s): fuck you.

It's good for a couple of things. 1) like the other posters said netflix, pandora, youtube type apps that may come preloaded on it. 2) remote control apps for android/iphone
