1
x= one type of computer monitor
y= another type of computer monitor
x+y=20 (since you know there are a total of 20 monitors together)
25x+40y=680 (since there are a total of 680 lbs, and there are 25 lbs per one type and 40 lbs per another type of computer monitor)
# 2
x=pentagons
y=octagons
x+y=60
5x + 8y= 354 (since a pentagon has 5 sides, therefore its 5 times the number of pentagons, same with y. There are 8 sides per octagon so it is 8 times however many octogans there are, adding up to a total of 354 sides)
#3
x= calories of a piece of cake
y= number in a scoop of ice cream
x+y=620
20x < 3y (not sure if it's supposed to be < or an = symbol..but either way you will get the same answer, if its really < symbol then treat it as a = symbol)
#4
x= first account
y= second account
*not sure if I'm right about this since there are % symbols in the problem, I'll just assume I need to convert it to decimals. If I am wrong, just change it back to %*
x+y=2000
.03x + .05y = 84 (to change % to a decimal, divide by 100. 3/100= .03, and 5/100 is .05)
#5
x= $5 dollar bills
y= $10 dollar bills
x+y=410
y+8=x (since there are 8 more 10 dollar bills than 5 dollar bills)
