Is it hard to get into MARSOC?
I know the requirements (pft score, gt score, etc). But how do you apply and does everyone that applies get a tryout? Im joining the USMC infantry and id like to try out for MARSOC. How do i apply and if i have all the requirements, will i get a tryout? And is there a wat to get in as an Lance Corporal? I heard you have to go through a screening. Is that true? Can u get in ad an LCpl?

Boats gave you the "basic" requirements for trying out. You will not be successful by direct application since the vast majority of MARSOC operators come from the Force Recon battalions. I mention "OPERATORS" assuming that is what you are interested versus support Marines (supply, admin, computer techs, comm, etc).
When you get to SOI, you will be given an opportunity to apply for Force Recon. Very, very few have what it takes to be selected for Force Recon out of SOI. The initial evaluation is very, very tough. Less than 10% who try out get a invitation to Force Recon initial evaluation which is very grueling. Very few who get this far get into Force Recon training.
Keep in mind that if you do not get selected, you can apply again later with the knowledge of where you were short and what you have to do to qualify. Additionally, you will have more experience as an infantryman and have a better understanding of what Force Recon is about and why they do what they do to screen out want-a-bees.
After being in Force Recon and doing well as a team member, apply for MARSOC which also has its own evaluation process. Most Force Recon applicants make it and very few of the non-Force Recon applicants do.
Pay attention to Boats list of basic qualifications: however, unless you score 300 on the PFT and can run another 5-6 miles after doing a PFT forget about trying out. Crunches - 80 is just the starting point. Pull-ups, can't do 20, need to work out some more. The requirements are all about physical stamina and endurance followed by always being mentally alert after all the physical stuff.
Lieutenant Colonel, U S Marine Corps-Retired (Know a few Force Recon guys and a couple of MARSOC senior officers. I worked with them when they were forming into SOCOM many years ago.)
