In the long run did the Tea Party do more damage than help to the Republican party?

Not sure on the amount of "damage" done to the republican party. I do know that the tea party is not concerned with the "damage" done to either party. The tea party is not for or against either party, but rather the policies of our govenment.

They haven't been around long enough for the long run.

In the short run they've cost the party some seats by replacing electable moderate conservatives with unelectable inflexible far right candidates, and they've hurt the party's reputation with independent voters by demanding ideological purity in place of individual judgement.

In the long run, Obama and the left is damaging America beyond the point of no return.

The tea party who believes that we shouldn't be a communist country with taxes at 100% was swept aside in its wake.
