Need help fixing taxes?
I efiled my taxes a week ago. I just received an unexpected 1098t for a dependent. I wasn't expecting this to come for this year because the education assistance money won't be here until next week. And the student started 2 weeks ago. So I thought this would be for next years taxes. What do I do?

You did not receive any money until 2013 so it does not appear on your 2012 taxes. This is an item for your 2013 taxes. Did you receive educational assistance last year? If so this was for that payment

you probably need to get this clarified with the school since you claim you don't already have the money but the school is giving your credit for tuition paid in 2012?
it may be that the 2012 payment by the aid office was effected in 2012 and you have yet to receive any of the aid money that was not used
once clarified, if it is for 2012, you will need to amend(1040X) but wait at least 8 wks

If you have an education credit coming for 2012 and want to claim it, you'll have to amend. You can't just file it next year.
