Don't splash around and don't bleed.

Sharks don't like to come very far inland so just make sure to stay about 100ft. from shore. It would also help to swim in a designated swimming area like a public beach. Sharks will steer clear of a place with lots of people. Sometimes public beaches have nets around the edges of the swimming area so sharks and other marine life can't get in and people will be protected. Don't worry you'll be fine and have fun!

your scared of something that isn't likely to happen, sharks wont attack you if they can see you clearly and if you dont present a threat to them. sharks are very misunderstood and in particular the great white just because it looks big and scary doesn't mean it is a mindless killer, especially not in the way it is portrayed in the jaws movies. blood may attract them and if there is blood they will go to investigate it but in general humans don't interest them. if you were splashing around it may attract one because they are very inquisitive creatures. i wouldn't worry about getting attacked by a shark, it is very likely that you wont see one at all because they are so rare due to over fishing. in terms of they types of sharks you could encounter, the great white shark is very rare on the american east coast but they do move up and down the coast, blue sharks live in the atlantic as well so there are sharks but i doubt if you will encounter any. bright colours are said to be a bad idea but black is just the same in my opinion as its the colour of a seal in most cases.

You should be fine. More people die from vending machines falling over than from sham attacks.. Just a fun fact.. Yes of course blood is known to attract them. But don't worry about that unless you have massive amounts of blood.. Which hopefully you don't(haha) enjoy the beach you'll be fine!!
