GIMP and I are not getting along?
I had everything, or so I thought. It just isn't working. Can someone walk me through the installation process of GIMP and GAP so that I can get to the .gif making?
Basically, ELI5

1. Go to the Gimp Website and Download the Program.
If you have Windows XP Service Pack 2 do not go to above 2.6 or you'll have to install Windows XP Service Pack 3) If you have Vista or Above get the highest version available.
2. Run or Download a free Registry Cleaner to get rid of errors on your PC. These errors can cause errors and Gimp not to run correctly.
3. Click the Gimp.exe file and run installation. It's a meter thing that will keep going up and the % will be 100% completed when finished click close, If you get some additional softwares and toolbars click decline.
4. During the first run the start will be pretty slow because Gimp is loading settings and drivers etc for the first time.
Gimp has some annoying tendencies like the driver library dl can get deleted and you have to reinstall the program all over again. Also keep your brushes, pallets, pluggins low or Gimp will crash and go slow on you.
Another thing beware of GimpShop, CinePaint, PaintStar are Gimp copycats best to avoid!
You can just download and use the portable one where you don't have to install anything!

Get GIMP at http://www.gimp.org/ - download it then double click the file to install it. When it's installed and GIMP starts it's first run, click on nothing - it's scanning your system as part of the installation - it can take a while - so go make yourself a coffee. When GIMP finally starts up, that's it fully installed.
Quit GIMP, then . . .
Get GAP here: http://photocomix-resources.deviantart.com/art/GAP... - extract the files from the zip, read the installation instructions contained in the zip. This version works in the newest version of GIMP too. I use it.
Install it as per the instructions, and restart GIMP.
