OS not accepting hardware changes?
I recently had to change my hard drive to a new computer. unfortunately the hard drive keeps booting to a recovery screen trying to "fix" the problems since all the hardware its been changed to is now different. i have no idea how to fix this and have no other pc to hook it up to other than this one.
i start it, it boots up and goes through bios and on to a choice menu of "recovery" or "start normaly". when i choose start normaly it ends up back at this screen when it reboots. when i run recovery it runs, then finalizes and says it cant repair the problem, then offers to shut down the pc. the BIOS is fine no errors etc.
Any ideas on how i could fix this?
(win7)
The old platform was a gateway quad core and the new platform is a dell duo with integrated graphics, theres almost no drivers relating to the new rig. and no i dont have an install disk, although i might be able to get my hands on one, but then its a matter of getting another reg key i guess?
is it possible i could use an install disk and it would just patch the error? or should i just accept that i need a purely clean install from scratch which would be super depressing.. especialy if it doesnt work. the last time i tried to fix a pc with a clean install it got stuck on an install screen asking a question AFTER it turned off the drivers.. preventing me from answering the question... so unless theres a way to wipe the drive out entirely before i try to reinstall OS.. then this is looking pretty bad for me i guess.
i have zero clues what to do, im usually just a point and click user, i know very little about BIOS or installing or doing workarounds. ( i had no option but to switch d

what hardware did you have before, and what hardware do you have now?
it could be a driver related issue (such as cpu), or it could just be a bios setting needs adjusting.
Make sure not to use ACHI unless you used it on the old computer. Did your previous computer have more than 1 hard drive? Most importantly, do you have an installation disc?

I would recommend a clean install of Windows but at the very least you will need your Windows install disc to do a repair installation.
