As a business owner, would you hire another business to do work for you without a license?

Would you hire a handyman, window washer, janitorial company, or painter etc to do work for your company if they have previously had a license and never renewed it and is missing county licenses? Corporate level, small business etc.

Update:

The company in question, will it void their insurance?

It is an ethics question, however they are my company's competition so I'm looking if it would be a good idea to bring it up to their clients as a way to try and gain their business.

Update 2:

yea, last I checked on it was Friday or so and as of then their license wasn't valid and expired in city, and never had a county or state license

Nope. If they mess up, you would be liable.

Yeah, you could definitely mention it. However, if you are wrong, you can be prosecuted for slander. So, if they had their license re-instated and you didn't check on it, you would be committing slander and could be sued. You would be sued personally and professionally for this. Just something to consider; if it is true when you say it, there is nothing illegal about that.

It likely wouldn't void their insurance, as long as the unlicensed business is insured. Businesses which hire other businesses are way more concerned with insurance than licensing in this case.

Sure you can. Your insurance will have to cover them. That is about all.
