Power Supply Question?!?

Hi Guys,

I wonder if anybody that's experienced in installing hardware can help me. So I bought a new PSU to replace the one that had gone bad, on my motherboard I have 2x4pin 12v ATX sockets. The PSU only has 1x4pin 12v ATX cable. My question is which socket do I plug this cable into?, the socket next to the 20pin or the one the other end of the motherboard, would it make a difference?... and also is one cable enough or do I need to fill the two sockets?... I'm assuming the socket is to supply power to the CPU?...

any and all help would be much appreciated...

-thanks

Update:

Sorry guys I did some searching and I understand much better now what I'm doing. Thanks for the responses.

I would have thought both but idk what motherboard you have, you can try starting the computer with only one plugged in and see what happens it won't cause any damage
