1) If each line contains two points then what is the number of distinct lines determined by three non-collinear points.
C. 3
Each selection of two points out of the three given determines a different line. ("Non-collinear" says the lines are different.)
There are 3 such pairs of points, because 3 different points can be the one not included in a pair.
2) Point M is the midpoint of AB . If MB = 13 and AB = 5x - 4 , find x.
AB is twice the length of MB, by the definition of a midpoint. So
5x - 4 = 2 (13)
5x = 26 + 4
x = 30/5 = 6 [answer B]
What is the measure of the angle between hands of a clock when it shows 8 o’clock?
The big hand is on the 12 and the little hand on the 8.
That's 4 numbers apart, and there are 12 numbers evenly spaced around the clock face, so that's
4/12 = 1/3 of the circle.
A full circle is 360 degrees, so 1/3 of that is 120 degrees (answer C).
