The State of Oklahoma established the Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training (CLEET) in 1963. The organization provides education, training and certification for law enforcement personnel throughout the state. CLEET offers basic, intermediate and advanced certification. The certification process involves undergoing extensive law enforcement training and passing a certification exam. Certification is only awarded to paid, full-time law enforcement officers who work for state or local government and possess powers of arrest.

    Instructions

    1

Get a job with a local or state law-enforcement agency in Oklahoma. You must complete CLEET training and certification within six months of being hired, but you can't get certification unless you are a full-time officer.

    2

Take the OPOST test, which stands for Oklahoma Peace Officer Selection Test. It is a reading, writing and comprehension test that includes grammar, incident report writing and arithmetic sections. Pass with a minimum score of 70 percent.

    3

Undergo a CLEET physical-assessment test. Pass the test with a minimum score of 70 percent. The test involves physical challenges such as the diagonal shuffle, stomach crawls, running, and weight dragging.

    4

Complete the application packet. Include all requested information such as medical and fitness information, proof of reading, writing and comprehension exam, high school diploma or GED certificate. Submit the application to the Council of Law Enforcement Education and Training.

    5

Attend the State of Oklahoma Law Enforcement Training Center, an academy that conducts an intensive training program with classroom instruction and practical, hands-on training. Courses include firearms training, criminal and traffic law, emergency vehicles operations, defensive tactics, human relations and ethics. Pass all written exams and receive your certification.
