Is my mutt a maligator?

I got a rescue mutt from the kennel two years ago - she was actually really sick at the time and the deal was that I foster her until she got better. She was 30 days old and had parvo. I managed to save her with the help of a great team of vets, and we became inseperable - needless to say no rehoming occurred, and nor will it ever.

Lots of people, especially now she's fully grown, ask me of she's a GSD or a wolf (of which she is quite clearly neither) but a friend of mine who knows dogs very, very well swears blind that she is a Malinois, or at the very least a Mal X something. She weighs 30kg (66lb)

Character wise she is very sweet and loving but protective as hell (obedience training a must with this one) energetic, strong prey drive and way, way too smart for her own good - when she's thirsty, she likes running water better than her bowl and opens the bathroom door and turns the tap on to drink from!

It doesn't make any difference to me whether or not she's a Mal cross, I've had dogs all my life including dogs with severe behavioural problems after being mistreated and/or neglected so feel pretty capable... but you know, I'm curious. And it's always fun to try and guess (futile I know) what mix is in a mutt :)

Update:

1. Yes, she's a mix. I got her from a rescue, not a BYB. I am curious and it is a bit of fun. no need to be so darned snotty about it, I'm hardly asking if I should breed her (and before you ask, of course she's darn well spayed, I'm not an idiot).

2. Hmmm, the wisdom panel is popular but I hear it's not very accurate, besides it's just for fun so I'm not gonna go spend money to find out. Thanks for your answer though :)

Update 2:

Pamela, another thing. Maligator is a nickname for the Malinois. Not a designer breed, since that is what I am presuming you are beng rude for.

Update 3:

What country you in? In Europe they often call 'em maligators, but it's meant as a joke re their skills as police dogs when trained up. I know she's a mix, but not if she's a Mal, I was just wondering out of curiosity what other people "see" in her breed wise - like I said, just a bit of fun.

Sorry for going on the defensive, but where I live people see us walking together and assume she is a poorly bred GSD, so they often have a go because they think I went to a BYB and not the shelter. I'll be honest, I've never paid for a dog in my life aside from the shelter donation - nothing against pedigrees when done responsibly, but since I neither breed nor show I prefer to rescue.

accally looks like it could have Australian Cattle Dog because of the grayish blues and that bit of lightish brown colour and the nice big ears or some other cattle dog mix that's just my option I don't really see Mal in her her ears are wider then most mals but more like a cattle dog, colourings doesn't seen similar doesn't have the black muzzle or right shad of brown like Mal's. I just see it closer to cattle dog then malinois. Still very nice looking dog and nice colouring

I don't see Mal. More GSD mix to me.

I'd have to chime in and say here in Canada, I hear Maligator a lot too from their owners due to their strong jaws.

Why don't you just get her DNA tested? It's the only way you will know for sure. You can guess all you want, but you will never know. She does look to be part Belgian Malinois. You can see that when she was just a tiny puppy. She may be part German Shepherd Dog, too. Belgian Malinois/German Shepherd Dog crosses are becoming more popular for their working ability. In fact, the police and military uses them a lot. But, you would have to do a DNA test to be sure. You will never be able to know for sure any other way.

AH,what in the heck is a maligator.

Ok so you know you dog is a mixed breed, I do not understand what the question is here.

Sorry was not being rude, but I never heard any reputable breeders of Malinois call them that.

And I do know three of them, they refer to their dogs as Mallies.

But as I said, if you know she is a mixed breed Malinois what is your question.

I see German Shepherd (mix), not Mal. German Shepherds are very intelligent.
